Top 5 Cities in Nigeria for a Weekend Getaway

Top 5 cities for getaway in Nigeria

The weekend is often the best part of the week. For most people, it represents a time to relax, hang out with friends, let off the stress and steam from the workdays.

So, if you find yourselves at the tipping point of burnout or looking to have fun for a few days then, a weekend getaway trip might be what you need. You can go on a weekend getaway trip solo, with babe or family.

Never mind that the universe did not get the memo to include a yacht in your plans because you can have as much fun as you want on the road too! Yes, indeed.

And that is why I will be sharing with you five top cities in Nigeria perfect for a spontaneous or planned rendezvous today. Let us get into it, shall we?

Lagos

Lagos (alongside Abuja) is probably the most cliched and most mentioned name in the room for cities with sight-worthy scenery but trust me when I say it is worth the hype.

Lagos is colorful and has so many places you can go for sightseeing and relaxation. Most importantly, you can savor different Nigerian and intercontinental dishes in this city of mixed tribes and nationalities if you are a foodie like me.

Among the top-rated places in Lagos city are the:

  1. Lekki conservation center
  2. Tarkwa bay beach, Freedom park
  3. Lekki market
  4. Ikeja city mall
  5. LUFASI nature park, to mention a few.

Calabar

What comes to mind when you think of Calabar? For me, carnivals. But did you know Calabar has beautiful scenery too? The National Museum, Agbokim waterfall, Kwa waterfall, Obudu mountain resort are tourist attractions you just have to experience.

Abeokuta

Abeokuta is a city well known for its export cash crops. But not only that. It is also the home of one of the major tourist attractions in Nigeria; the Olumo Rock. New and returning travelers often climb this rock to take the edge off and experience the grandeur of nature. And you should too if rock climbing rocks your boat. Take a day or two off your itinerary to experience the beauty of the grand centenary hall and the Olusegun Obasanjo Library when you visit this city.

Ibadan

Ibadan is a city brimming with history and culture. Known as the largest city in Nigeria, it is also the home of the first university in Nigeria. So, if you would like to take a trip to this city, consider paying a visit to the:

  1. UI Zoo
  2. Agodi Gardens
  3. Topfat Art Gallery
  4. Odu’a Museum
  5. Hall Of Fame.

And if hiking is more of your thing, the Ado Awaye mountains and Suspended lakes beckon 🙂.

  2. Abuja National Mosque
  3. Jabi Lake Mall
  4. Bature Brewery
  5. Jabi Lake
  6. Dunes
